Perla De Leon of PG&E presents $12,000 to the club.

The Boys & Girls Club of North San Luis Obispo County held its 2nd Annual Community Open House on April 3 and welcomed over 75 friends and supporters. The open house was hosted to increase awareness of the club’s after-school and summer programs for children in grades K-8.

The highlight of the evening was a singing performance by local children. Nearly 15 local supporters were recognized for their contributions to the Boys & Girls Club. Those businesses and civic organizations recognized included: PG&E, Kiwanis, Lions Club, Central Coast Funds for Children, Moose Lodge Porch Monkeys, Cellar 360, Super Fun Run, King Oil Tools, Staples, Lowes, Atascadero Crossfit, Southern California Gas Company, Baker Wine & Grape Analysis and Orchard Hill Bed & Breakfast.

Lindsey Miller and Perla De Leon (pictured) of PG&E were in attendance and took the open house as an opportunity to present the Boys & Girls Club with a $12,000 check to replace all the lower level windows. The new windows are now energy efficient and break resistant; saving the club hundreds of dollars in energy and repair bills. PG&E also arranged to have all lights upgraded at the Club with low-energy use fixtures and bulbs.

The Boys & Girls Club charges only $20 in school year tuition to participate at Boys & Girls Club. However, it costs the Club $2,500 per child to attend. Boys & Girls Club does not receive any government funding. Support is raised through local donations, fundraising events and campaigns.

Over 100 children attend the club after school each day and the club runs a full-day program during the summer. Additional fees apply to the summer program. Children complete their homework each afternoon and participate in the Brain Gain Initiative, a fun, high-impact academic program, over the course of the summer.

During the school year Boys & Girls Club maintains a clubhouse in Paso Robles at Flamson Middle School. This summer, in addition to the Paso Robles site, the club will open a new summer-only site at Atascadero Bible Church in Atascadero.
