Updated: Identities released in fatal Highway 46 accident

Update posted1:45 p.m., July 15:  The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the solo vehicle traffic collision that resulted in the death of two people on Tuesday. The driver involved has been identified as 22-year-old Cambria resident Ismael Ochoa. The two passengers in the vehicle have been identified as 20-year-old Patience Robbins of Cambria, who was sitting in the right front seat, and 11-year-old William Robbins, who was sitting in the back seat, behind the driver. Ochoa was driving a 2000 Ford F-150.woman crashes car

CHP says that Ochoa appears to have fallen asleep and allowed the Ford F-150 to drift off the north roadway edge of Highway 46. Ochoa then made an abrupt turning movement to the left, and the abrupt turning movement caused the F-150 to travel across both of the traffic lanes and begin to rotate in a counter clockwise direction as it traveled off the south roadway edge and down a steep embankment.

When the F-150 started down the embankment it overturned an unknown number of times, causing William Robbins, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to be ejected from the Ford F-150. The F-150 came to rest approximately 300 feet down the embankment.

Both William Robbins and Patience Robbins (who was wearing her seatbelt), were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver, Ochoa, was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment. The cause of death for both Patience and William Robbins was multiple blunt force traumas.

Although drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision, the investigation is ongoing, according to CHP.
