Alert: Freeze watch in effect

freeze watch

The US National Weather Service issued a ‘Freeze Watch’ for Paso Robles in effect from late Tuesday night through Friday morning at 10 a.m. A freeze watch means temperatures of 28 degrees or less will be possible for at least two consecutive hours. Protective measures to save outdoor plants may be needed.

Minimum temperatures between 26 to 30 degrees are possible Wednesday morning and minimum temperatures between 19 to 26 degrees are possible Thursday and Friday mornings, the weather services says.

Long durations of sub-freezing temperatures can kill unprotected vegetation and animals as well as bursting
exposed water pipes.

Letting a faucet drip during extreme cold weather can prevent a pipe from bursting, according to the Weather Channel. It’s not that a small flow of water prevents freezing; this helps, but water can freeze even with a slow flow. Rather, opening a faucet will provide relief from the excessive pressure that builds between the faucet and the ice blockage when freezing occurs. If there is no excessive water pressure, there is no burst pipe, even if the water inside the pipe freezes.
