Show documents creation of replica mining camp by Daniels Wood Land at Margarita Adventures Zipline Tours

– San Luis Obispo County will be in the national spotlight on Friday, Aug. 14, as the next episode of Animal Planet’s Redwood Kings showcases the creation of the “P.W. Murphy Mining Company,” a replica of a mid-1800s gold mining camp built for Margarita Adventures zip line canopy tours in Santa Margarita.

Redwood Kings stars brothers Ron and John Daniels and their team at Daniels Wood Land in Paso Robles, who are known around the world for their tree houses, facades and other creations.

The mining camp is located at the end of Margarita Adventures’ fifth and final zip line. After flying 1,800 feet over a Pinot Noir vineyard, guests zip under an antique-style water tower with the optical illusion that they are about to descend into the mouth of a mining shaft.

The zip line episode marks the first time that an episode of Redwood Kings has featured a major project built right here in Daniels Wood Land’s backyard.

“This was a particularly special project for us,” said Ron Daniels. “It goes right to the heart of everything we love about living in SLO County and the Central Coast. It combines outdoor adventure with rich history, incredible scenery and vineyards.”

The mining camp was built with several repurposed materials. Much of the wood was milled from old redwood posts recovered from the ranch. These posts themselves had been made from retired railroad ties dating back to the early railroad days. One of the camp’s main beams comes from a previously dismantled bridge in Santa Margarita. An old water tank was decorated with rivets by Daniels Wood Land to mimic the technology of the late 1800s. Authentic period tools, such as an antique drill press, further enhance the ambiance.

“Honoring our history is a big part of what we do at Margarita Adventures,” said Karl Wittstrom, managing partner of Margarita Adventures. “The P.W. Murphy Mining Company is all about bringing California history to life in a memorable way. It’s the ultimate conversation starter about a pivotal period in the history of the Golden State.”

The official Redwood Kings episode description reads: “Zigzagging around a 17,000 acre ranch in California is a series of adrenaline pumping zip lines. Ron & John take the adventure to another level by creating a Gold Rush-era themed zip line.”
