Anne Maureen Ham Candler

– Anne Maureen Ham Candler, passed away peacefully on Aug. 13, 2015 surrounded in love by her immediate family.

Candler was born on Aug. 26, 1932 in Cornwall on the Hudson, New York to Lt. Col Harry Winston Candler and Mariann Gertrude Hoctor Candler. The eldest of three children she is survived by her two brothers Col. Harry W. Candler, Jr. and Captain Edward Candler. As an Army brat, Candler spent her childhood traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe following her father’s various posts including high school in Lucerne, Switzerland while her family was posted in Germany following WWII. Candler graduated from University of The Incarnate Word with a B.S. in Nursing, launching her 35-year career as a nurse in various capacities. Her healing hands and compassionate heart cared for literally thousands of people throughout her life from hospital emergency rooms, cancer wards, elementary schools and skilled nursing facilities. Candler retired and moved to Paso Robles in 1996 where she had the happiest times of her life on “the ranch,” where her family often gathered for celebrations.

Candler was an arts and crafts enthusiast and was never far away from her glue gun, sewing machine or knitting needles. She was famous for gigantic paper mache creations, sequined clothing and midnight chocolate milkshakes.

Known as “Noni” to her grandchildren and to most everyone else she met over the last 25 years, she will forever be remembered for her enthusiastic approach to life, her inclusive, warm heart, her generous spirit, sage advice and the beautiful way in which she made every day a party.

Candler is best remembered by the immense love she had for her family, her reason for being and on whom she showered her extraordinary gifts. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Lt. Col. Lewis H. Ham, Jr and their four children, Kathleen, Sherry, Sam and Pat along with twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
