Taco bell track meet

Registration now open

—Local students in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to register for the 31st annual Taco Bell Track Meet to be held at the Paso Robles High School track on Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m. until noon. This annual event features run, jump, and throw competitions geared toward all ages and abilities of elementary age participants. Students can register to take part in several events including a long jump, turbo javelin throw, and 50, 100, 200 and 400 meter races.

The morning festivities begin with a welcome from event grand marshal, Paso Robles Mayor Steve Martin, followed by a student parade around the track. The first race of the day will be run, hopped or galloped by school mascots representing many of the participating schools. Parents and fans will have the opportunity to submit shout-outs to track meet participants to be announced periodically throughout the course of the event for a $1 fee. Additionally, radio station Coast 101.3 FM will be broadcasting live from the event this year.

Everyone who takes part in the meet will receive a foldable City of Paso Robles frisbee to commemorate the day. Prizes will be awarded for individual events as well as trophies for the winning school boys’ and girls’ relays.

“For thirty one years, the Taco Bell Track Meet has been a wonderful collaboration between Taco Bell, Paso Robles Recreation Services and our local elementary schools,” said Lynda Holt, recreation manager for the City of Paso Robles. “Our goal is to encourage children to come out and represent their school during this event that focuses on friendly competition, school spirit and most of all fun!”

Registration is $10 per participant. Those who register between March 15 and April 5 will receive a free t-shirt. Registration forms are available at all Paso Robles, San Miguel and Shandon elementary schools, online at www.prcity.com/recreation or at the Centennial Park Recreation offices located at 600 Nickerson Drive.

Paso Robles Recreation Services is also seeking adult and teen volunteers to help with many aspects of the meet. Volunteer applications are available online at www.prcity.com/recreation.
