San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Debbie Arnold defeated challenger Eric Michielssen in the 5th District race and will keep her seat for a second term, after Tuesday’s primary election. Arnold received 53-percent of the vote while Michielssen received 47-percent in a close race.

As there were just two candidates in the race and Arnold received more than 50-percent of the vote, the race will not move to a Nov. 8 general election.

Arnold has lived on the Central Coast since attending Cal Poly in 1973. The Arnold family owns a ranching and farming business where they produce beef, hay and wine grapes. Arnold previously owned and operated a preschool in Atascadero.

Elected to the county board in 2012, Debbie has served in various capacities, including, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, President of the SLO Council of Governments, and Chair of the Homeless Services Oversight Council.
