Long established as a locals-favorite work out studio in San Luis Obispo, Assets barre fitness has now officially pulled into Paso Robles with a new studio located at 736 Pine Street at the Historic Train Depot. Offering intense ballet barre-based workouts designed to tone, lengthen, and sculpt the body, the Assets instructors are extending an invitation to the Paso Robles community to come out and try a free class during their Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, July 12.

Julia Pickslay, owner of both the San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles Assets studios, said she is thrilled to be offering classes in North County.

“There is so much happening in Paso Robles now,” says Pickslay. “It’s definitely an exciting place to open a business that’s both health-conscious and fun. We hope clients will take advantage of the numerous BarreFitness™ and BarreCardio™ classes on the schedule.”

Just what is this thing called BarreFitness™ and BarreCardio™ that Pickslay is referring to? For starters, a traditional barre fitness class is healthy, different than any other form of fitness activity, and considered one of the most fun among the latest exercise trends sweeping the country.

Assets instructor Heather Morrow practices her form during a recent class.

Since offering classes on the Central Coast, Pickslay has added her own personal twist and techniques to come up with her very own trademarked BarreFitness™ and BarreCardio™ brands. The fundamentals of the BarreFitness technique? Ballet warm-up exercises, yoga and some Pilates-inspired movements.

“The fusion of all three practices creates a workout that engages all your muscles while targeting the arms, thighs, seat and core through a high intensity, no-impact workout,” says Pickslay.

Heather Morrow is an instructor at both Assets locations and says what sets the format of the classes apart from others is the hands-on, personal attention that is given to each and every client.

“There’s nothing like this anywhere,” says Morrow. “We are focused on our clients and being able to get hands-on with them and work on their positioning. That’s hard to do in a larger setting – what we do at Assets is much more intimate.”

Clients typically notice changes in their posture after just three classes and changes in their silhouette after 10, according to Morrow. Among those changes? Long lean legs, a lifted seat, a tighter core, increased muscle strength and flexibility are just a few of the benefits she mentions.

Erin Stuck, co-owner of General Store Paso Robles, started taking classes in January at a temporary location above Ambiance as she awaited the opening of the new Train Depot studio. The new Assets studio, situated to the right of the train station near Goshi Japanese Restaurant and Strawberry Blonde Salon, boasts a light and airy fitness room that has been brimming with students since its opening.
