Atascadero United Methodist Church adds REMIX service on Sunday afternoons

Atascadero United Methodist ChurchAtascadero United Methodist Church, 11605 El Camino Real, is adding a second service, called REMIX, on Sundays at 4:30 p.m. This service will include a new, different style of worship and will be a place that people can connect with like-minded people who want to make a difference, think deeply about issues, and want to live with compassion and inclusion rather than judgment and exclusion. The service will begin on Oct. 26.

AUMC Pastor Diane Rehfield said that the new service is different in several ways: it will be held in the afternoon rather than in the morning on Sunday, the music will have a blend of bluegrass, rock, country and other musical styles with the house band: Jon Bartel, Patrick Hayes and Brenneth Stevens, and the service will finish with a communal meal from Scotty’s Barbecue, which will be on-site after the service with chicken, salad, beans and bread.

“REMIX is a word that to many young people means a new version of an old song,” Rehfield said. “We are preserving the tradition of our older hymns in a new way. But we are also preserving our faith tradition by delivering it in a new way at REMIX. The order of worship will be a little different, the music will be quite a bit different, but the message of God’s love, and of the world changing life, death, and resurrection of Jesus will be right there.”
