Festival returns to Morro Bay Sept. 9, 10

–The Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce will bring the 2016 Avocado Margarita Festival to Morro Bay for the tenth year in a row on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10. The festival features a larger footprint with a free area, more family-friendly activities, bands and the inaugural Friday evening Taste of the Grove event.

The festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. along the embarcadero waterfront in Morro Bay. Attendees will savor Central Coast’s avocados, entertainment and atmosphere in a safe and fun street festival. The festival will also feature live music, arts and crafts vendors and specialty foods. Live music performers include Bear Market Riot, Black Market Trio, Proxima Parada, The JD Project, Zongo All Stars, Samba Loca and more.

Families are welcomed to enjoy face painting, live music and street performers in a free family fun zone, plus games like cornhole and life-sized Jenga. All can take part in Central California’s Best Sombrero Contest. This year nearly 10,000 visitors are expected to make this the go-to event.

The Taste of the Grove event takes place on Friday, Sept. 9 from 6-9 p.m. This intimate cocktail evening will be held at the Packing Shed, an avocado farm set minutes from town. Guests will enjoy an all-inclusive, farm-to-table pairing by area chefs and farmers with avocado-themed dishes. Sample the culinary creations of local restaurants such as: Artisan, Divine Street Catering, Fig Good Food, Stepladder Ranch, Olea Farm, Trumpet Vine Catering, Thomas Hill Organics, Two Cooks and more. This is an exclusive event limited to 200 guests, and is expected to sell out fast.

The Avocado Margarita Festival is among the most popular annual events in Morro Bay. Proceeds support the local chamber, the Morro Bay High School Music Boosters and Morro Bay Rotary.
