–On Jan. 30, local dentist Grant E. Marcum will be hosting a bone marrow donor registration event at his office in Paso Robles. The dentist is teaming up with Sharing America’s Marrow, a grassroots movement searching for heroes who can save the lives of patients fighting blood cancer.

Sharing America’s Marrow, or SAM, is a campaign started by sisters Sam and Alex Kimura in collaboration with Delete Blood Cancer to raise awareness for the need and register as many people as possible to the donor registry. Co-founder Sam, 22, is fighting a rare bone marrow failure disease and has yet to find a donor for the transplant that she needs to cure her disease. The SAM team is helping host events across the country to find a donor for Sam and for the thousands of other patients fighting blood cancer and other diseases.

To register, come to the office at 1004 Vine Street in Paso Robles, on Jan. 30 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Potential donors must be between the ages of 18 and 55, in general good health and willing to donate to any patient in need. The process involves filling out a short consent form and swabbing the inside of the mouth. Those potentially called to be a donor could be the one person in the world that could save that patient’s life. Most often the donation process is similar to donating platelets or plasma.
