Cal Fire reduces paramedic service to California Valley

As of Monday, May 25, Cal Fire San Luis Obispo County Fire will no longer provide Paramedic services at the Carrizo Fire Station 42 which serves the California Valley.

Cal Fire reduces paramedics to Carissa PlainSince 2012 when construction of the Topaz Solar Farms was started in the California Valley, First Solar funded additional staffing. This staffing included paramedic firefighters that ensured that their employees had “Advanced Life Support” services, while also providing the community with a higher level of emergency medical care.

The Topaz Solar Farms Company is continuing to fund additional firefighting personnel at Station 42 with a reduction to “Basic Life Support”. All Cal Fire San Luis Obispo County firefighters are trained to a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician 1 level. The continued funding of firefighting personnel by the Topaz Solar Farms is not a requirement and is done as a community service by the company.

Chief Robert Lewin commented, “While we are sorry to see a reduction in service, we are so appreciative of the generosity of Topaz Solar Farms for their support in providing firefighter staffing to the community in the California Valley.”
