Screen Shot 2013-03-31 at 1.42.44 PMA California Highway Patrol officer died Thursday morning off-duty in San Miguel when a car he was working on fell on him.

Bryan Wright, 41, was working on his truck at his home outside of San Miguel, it was reported. His home is east of San Miguel on the border of San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties.

“He was a real nice guy and it is a very sad day,” said CHP public affairs officer Robert Lehman, according to the Paso Robles Press. “I had met him a few times and he was just a friendly person.”

The officer, who once worked as a training officer, had a wife and two children, the newspaper reported. He worked for the King City CHP and had been with the CHP for about 15 years.
