Celebrating the songs of Wendy Liepman 

Songwriters At Play concert on May 9 celebrates local singer-songwriter

The songs of Wendy Liepman will be celebrated at a Songwriters At Play concert on Friday, May 9 at D’Anbino Cellars in Paso Robles.

The songs of Wendy Liepman will be celebrated at a Songwriters At Play concert taking place on Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at D’Anbino Cellars, 710 Pine St. in Paso Robles. Liepman is the award-winning writer in the duo Bob & Wendy, a mainstay of the Central Coast folk scene for more than 25 years.

The show will honor her writing by bringing together a large crowd of musicians to cover her songs – the lineup includes Karen Tyler, Kiki Ebsen, Dulcie Taylor, Ynana Rose,Ted Waterhouse, Holly Ann Phillips, Amie Richie, Mark Davis & Karoline Hausted, Burke Trieschmann, Sarah Pigion, Ragged Company, Julian Temple, Steve Key, and maybe more. Bob Liepman will add his cello throughout, and Bob & Wendy to close it out with their own set.

According to information on the Bob & Wendy website, when asked to describe her songwriting Liepman states, “Every song contains a grain of truth, although some of the names and stories have been changed to protect the innocent.”

Liepman wrote her first song “Endless Highway” at the age of 10, and continues to play her mother’s 1944 Martin guitar. She grew up to the sound of 60’s folk music — The Weavers, Kingston Trio, and later Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and the Beatles. Current influences include Buddy and Julie Miller, Sam Phillips, and Aimee Mann. Songwriters At Play concerts are held monthly on second Fridays at D’Anbino Cellars. Reservations are highly recommended at (805) 227-6800 ext. 700. Tickets are $10 per person.
