Winners of Central Coast Wine Competition announced
The California Mid-State Fair recently announced the winners of the eleventh annual Central Coast Wine Competition, held June 11-12. The competition featured the best the central coast has to offer in wines in the largest evaluation of wines grown in the central coast region.
This year’s competition consisted of over 600 entries from 135 wineries throughout California. “Wine competitions serve several functions, not the least of which is to provide consumers and the trade with a frame of reference to measure overall a region’s development and trends. The Central Coast Wine Competition met that standard by showing just how well San Luis Obispo County can do by white wines as well as red,” stated judge Mike Dunne.
“The overall best-of-show wine at this June’s Central Coast Wine Competition, for example, was the lean and electric Mariposa 2013 Edna Valley Albarino, which beat out the spirited and graceful San Simeon 2010 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon.”
Award winning entries will be showcased in four California fairs, offering a venue for fairgoers to experience captivating wines from the central coast. Gold medal wine will be displayed first at the Santa Barbara County Fair July 9–13 in Santa Maria, followed by the California Mid-State Fair running July 16–27 in Paso Robles, Ventura County Fair July 30 to September 1 in Ventura, and lastly Monterey County Fair in Monterey.
