City buying off-road emergency vehicle
The Paso Robles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to accept a grant to purchase an off-road emergency vehicle for the city’s police and emergency services. The $20,000 grant comes from the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Vehicle License Fund. It will allow the city to purchase the vehicle and medical equipment.
Police Lt. Tim Murphy told the council the new off-road vehicle will improve service to the riverbed and hills on the outskirts of town, areas currently inaccessible to standard emergency vehicles. The vehicle will be stationed on a trailer at the police department where the city currently has two 202 ATVs housed for off-road emergency response.
The idea to apply for the grant followed a medical emergency earlier this year that was off-road and difficult to respond to, Murphy said.
The grant does not require matching costs from the city and will cover the full cost of the vehicle and equipment.
