City Council approves road repairs on Spring St.

Paso RoblesThe Paso Robles City Council last week approved a contract for major road repairs on Spring Street between 16th and 24th Streets. The $1.1-million contract was awarded to the low bidder, Ferravanti Paving & Grading.

In other road projects, the council also authorized the installation of bike lanes on Riverside Avenue between 13th and 17th Streets, now that the Highway 101 on and off ramps are completed. The council authorized a project to install curb, gutter and sidewalk on the east side of Buena Vista Avenue from the northern boundary of Ayres Hotel property to Dallons Drive, across the front of property owned by Cuesta College.

In other action at the council meeting:

Support for groundwater basin management district
The council voted to support the enactment of AB 2453 – a State bill proposed to allow creation of a Paso Robles Groundwater Basin Management District. The council urged local land owners in the unincorporated area of the North County who use the groundwater basin to promptly form the management district. The council authorized the development of a groundwater basin joint powers authority to allow joint city, county and future management district agencies.

Building plan review
In an effort to clear a backlog, and recreate pre-recession plan review capacity of building permit applications, the council approved the addition of a deputy building official and administrative support staff, adjustment of plan check and building inspection hourly rates, and agreed to organize a workshop of industry professionals to explore other ideas to improve building plan check processes.

Airport restaurant lease
The council approved a lease renewal and expansion with ACI to continue operations as the fixed base operator and added restaurant space for ACI to open a food concession.
