City council to review proposed vacation rental ordinance

Short term rental task force Paso Robles

The Short-Term Rental Task Force meeting in 2016 to discuss a process for management of short-term rentals.

The Paso Robles City Council is holding a public workshop Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. to review new rules for vacation rentals in the city. The public is invited to attend this workshop and will be given an opportunity to speak.

In March, the council requested options for managing short-term rentals, also referred to as “vacation rentals”. The asked City Manager Tom Frutchey to appoint a citizens’ Short-Term Rental Task Force to examine the issue of short-term rentals.

The task force consisted of seven members, representing different opinions on the short-term rental issue. It was responsible for developing a comprehensive recommendation for the council’s consideration.

The Short-term Rental Task Force’s recommended draft ordinance will be presented at the workshop with public comment and city council discussion. The council will not take any formal action on the draft ordinance but may refer it to staff, back to the Short-Term Rental Task Force or to the Paso Robles Planning Commission for additional review.
