City library presents new ‘Battle of the Books’ titles

400 new books purchased thanks to Masonic Lodge donation books

–The Paso Robles City Library invites the public to an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to present this year’s Battle of the Books titles. Presentation of the collection to the community will be on Thursday, September 1, at 3 p.m. in the new books section of the Children’s Library.

Thanks to a generous $2,500 donation provided to the Friends of the Library by the Thaddeus Sherman Masonic Lodge #196 and Bethlehem Estero Pines Chapter No. 95, Order of Eastern Star, nearly 400 titles in this year’s Battle of the Books Program will be available for checkout at the library and Library Study Center immediately after the presentation.

Battle of the Books is a national reading incentive program for students in 3rd through 8th grades. Students read books and come together usually in groups to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read.

“Battle of the Books is a wonderful program that encourages reading for comprehension,” says City Librarian Angelica Fortin. “The library is proud to support this school district program through its collections.”

The Paso Robles City Library is located at 1000 Spring Street and is open Monday – Friday 10-8, and Saturday 10-5. For more information on library programs and events, call (805) 237-3870 or visit www.prcity.com/library.
