Claudia Russell

Songwriters At Play Showcase features Claudia Russell Sept. 29

Bay Area balladeer Claudia Russell is on tour with brand new CD, All Our Luck Is Changing, produced by Peter Case. Russell delivers a whimsical melting pot of traditional and contemporary styles, from earnest folk to sweet jug band blues, driven by her deft guitar work and a versatile, expressive voice that tips the hat to artists as diverse as Dolly Parton, Suzanne Vega and Aretha Franklin. Claudia paints her material with emotional depth, looking forward and back at life with both childlike awe and the mature wisdom of a musician with four decades of music under her belt.

Claudia Russell has shared stages with Kris Kristoffersen, Willie Nelson, Peter Rowan, Rosalie Sorrels, among many others. She is accompanied by the Folk Unlimited Orchestra which includes Bruce Kaplan on mandolin, guitar and vocals, and Mark Petrella on string bass.

Also in the Sept. 29 lineup: Mark Davis, Karoline Haustead, and L.A.’s Kevin Quinn.

Songwriters At Play holds showcases every Sunday afternoon, 1–4 p.m. pm at Sculpterra Winery, 5015 Linne Road, Paso Robles, 805-226-8881. The showcase includes one featured act and others playing 4-song sets. All ages are welcome — great place for a family picnic.
