Money for improvements come from state grant, redevelopment funds

–At Tuesday night’s Paso Robles City Council meeting, the council awarded a City Park rehabilitation contract to Brough Construction, Inc., in the amount of $1,075,700.

The project will replace play equipment, upgrade electrical systems, repair walkways, fix irrigation, remove the fountain and install an entry plaza in its place, and add new plantings. Accounting for already contracted design services, $1,200,000 is available to fund construction.

The funds to make the improvements to the park come primarily from a State of California Housing-Related Parks Program grant. The grant application process began in December 2013, and six months later, on Nov. 18, 2014, council authorized execution of the grant. On February 17, 2015, city council authorized staff to enter into an agreement with SSA Landscape Architects to design the repair and rehabilitation project. In June, the council voted unanimously to move the improvements forward.

The conditions of the grant provide that the funds must be used no later than June 30, 2016. In addition to the grant, the city has remaining redevelopment funds totaling $650,000 from the 2009 bond sale that may be used for the project bringing the total available budget to $1.45 million.
