Council authorizes next step for Highway 46 improvements

council sept 15– At the most recent Paso Robles City Council meeting, the council voted to authorize a contract for the next step of engineering design and environmental review of the highway interchange improvement proposed at the intersection of Highway 46 East and Union Rd.

The city will enter into a contract with consulting engineering firm Hatch-Mott-MacDonald to prepare the Project Approval Environmental Documents for the improvements, in the amount of $900,000 with a $50,000 contingency.

Councilman Jim Reed questioned the expense, saying that close to one million dollars was a lot of money to spend on an environmental review. Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza explained that the process actually involves seven different reviews, and that they are all required for the improvements. The council voted unanimously to authorize the contract.
