City to wait for executive direction from the state

At the Paso Robles City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 7, councilman Fred Strong brought the executive order B-29-15 regarding state mandated water conservation as supplemental information, and requested that the topic be placed on the agenda of a future meeting.

The executive order will impose restrictions with a goal of achieving a state-wide, 25-percent reduction in potable water usage through February of 2016.

Councilman Strong said that, in 2013, the city cut 20 percent of it’s water usage within one year of statewide regulations being imposed. He said that he was concerned that an additional 25 percent reduction could decrease the quality of life particularly for the community’s seniors, to the point of potentially causing harm.

City Manager Jim App told the council that exactly how the cuts would be achieved, was not yet determined, and said that the city should wait for orders from the state before taking any actions. “It’s all speculation at this point,” App said.
