Councilman Fred Strong endorses Steve Martin for supervisor

‘I was always impressed with Steve’s ability to lead and communicate’ says Strong

–Long-time Paso Robles City Councilman Fred Strong today endorsed Steve Martin for San Luis Obispo County Supervisor.

“While working side-by-side with Mayor Martin to increase North County stature on regional boards and commissions, I was always impressed with Steve’s ability to lead and communicate,” said Strong. “I am proud to give my full support to Steve Martin for 1st District Supervisor.”

In addition to serving on the Paso Robles City Council, Strong has chaired and served on numerous government committees and advisory bodies in San Luis Obispo County. Local work includes the North County’s First District Water Advisory Committee and the revision of the Paso Robles Airport Master Plan and Land Use Plan. He was a co-founder and the original coordinator of the first Paso Robles Parks and Recreation sponsored Youth Soccer program and for eleven years he was the Coordinator of the S.H.A.R.E. and Healthy Share monthly food program in San Luis Obispo County. He has been a regular volunteer for the Main Street Association and the Vine Street Showcase events.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement and support,” said Martin. “We have worked closely together on the Paso Robles City Council on issues important to our community like improving our city streets, improving city services and keeping Paso Robles the wonderful community that we all know and love.”

Martin and his wife, Jennifer, have lived in Paso Robles for four decades. They have raised their family here and have been active in many community activities. Martin has more than 30 years of experience in communications including corporate communications, radio, television, newspaper, publishing, Internet design and public relations. He is an author and musician. He has worked in both the public and private sectors, as an elected official, an executive manager and the owner of several media-related businesses. He advises clients on a wide range of communication and economic development activities and has developed and implemented numerous communications plans to achieve clients’ strategic goals.

Martin served on the council previously from 1987 to 1996. He was selected by his peers to be Mayor of Paso Robles from 1988 to 1990.

The first district boundaries extend from the Monterey County line to the north, to the Kern County line to the east, it includes the community of Templeton to the south and extends to the mountain range that includes Adelaide and York Mountain to the west. The first district is about 651,000 acres, with a population of approximately 53,860 residents. There is one incorporated city in the district which is Paso Robles.

Councilman John Hamon is also running for the seat, as well as Republican strategist John Peschong.
