County Fire Chief Robert Lewin announces retirement 

County fire chief has worked in fire service for 37 years

Lewin’s last day of service will be Dec. 18.

–Cal Fire/San Luis Obispo County Fire Chief Robert Lewin announced his retirement today after 37 years in the fire service. His last day of service will be Dec. 18. Lewin has been the county fire chief for the last five years. He will begin working for the County of Santa Barbara on Jan. 4, 2016 as an Emergency Services Manager for the County Office of Emergency Management.

Deputy Chief Steve Reeder will be the acting Fire Chief behind Chief Lewin until a permanent appointment is made. Reeder has 30 years in the fire service and has been serving as the deputy chief for two years.

Robert Lewin stated, “Leadership is an honor, it has been my honor to serve the citizens of this great state and the County of San Luis Obispo. I want to thank the men and women of Cal Fire San Luis Obispo for their constant dedication and courage in the protection of life, property and the natural resources we all cherish. I look forward to continuing to work in emergency management here on the Central Coast in my new position with Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management.”
