Arroyo Grande Mayor Tony Ferrara, San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx and Morro Bay Mayor Jamie Irons endorse Tim Covello for District Attorney, his campaign announced today in a statement. Ferrara, Marx and Irons join a long list of public safety, elected officials and business and community leaders supporting Covello including San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Gerald T. Shea, Chief of Police Steven N. Annibali, Paso Robles Chief of Police Robert Burton, Grover Beach Chief of Police Jim Copsey and Pismo Beach Chief of Police Jeff Norton, the statement says.

“I am proud to endorse Tim Covello for district attorney,” said San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx. “He has over twenty years of trial experience and nearly a decade of management experience here in the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s office. He has the sound judgment, real leadership experience and vision that we need.”

For over two decades, Covello has worked as a prosecutor and manager with the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office. As a trial deputy district attorney and assistant district attorney, he has successfully prosecuted some of the most dangerous criminals in SLO County, while at all times maintaining the highest ethical and prosecutorial standards, the statement read. As a felony team leader, chief deputy district attorney and currently as the assistant district attorney, second in command to the elected district attorney, Covello have worked to improve the district attorney’s office, the statement said.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Arroyo Grande Mayor Tony Ferrara, San Luis Obispo Mayor Jan Marx and Morro Bay Mayor Jamie Irons. They are effective leaders who represent their communities well,” stated district attorney candidate Covello.

Covello will be facing colleague deputy DA Dan Dow in the election. Current DA Gerry Shea is not seeking reelection. The primary election is Tuesday, June 3, 2014.
