Expect delays on Union Road for two weeks

Road work 001

Crews investigate utility locations on Union Road near Walnut Drive

Drivers can expect slight delays along Union Road near Walnut Drive in Paso Robles for the next two weeks as crews continue to investigate utility locations in the area in preparation for various road improvement projects scheduled to take place beginning in 2014.

“Before any significant road work can begin, there will be some significant utility repairs and upgrades,” Paso Robles City Engineer John Falkenstein said. “The crews out there now are investigating utility locations such as the water main, power lines and AT&T lines. This is a preamble to a very significant project.”

According to a press release issued earlier this year, among the work expected to be completed on Union Road between Kleck and Montebello roads include adding sidewalks, removing tree roots, fixing drainage issues and the addition of bike lanes.

“The crest of the hill near Walnut Drive will also be lowered by about four feet to improve visibility and the sight distance for those traveling along Union Road,” Falkenstein said.

Although the two week time frame for the utility investigation is just an estimate, drivers are reminded to slow down and allow extra time for travel in the area.
