Annual 5K Run/Walk planned at Cuesta College

Cuesta College is seeking runners and walkers to participate in its 3rd annual 5K Run/Walk on Friday, May 8, at the San Luis Obispo Campus’s track. And this year, all 5K registrants will be entered to win two round-trip tickets to Hawaii.

“We are so excited to be able to offer a trip to Hawaii as a prize this year, along with prizes for the top male and female participants,” said Jani Johnson, Cuesta College’s division chair of kinesiology, health sciences and athletics.

The 5K is open to runners and walkers 10 and older and begins at 4 p.m. The pre-registration fee of $30, or the on-site registration fee of $40, includes a Hawaiian lei and commemorative towel.

For the younger participants, a Cougar Kids Fun Run will begin at 5 p.m. For a pre-registration fee of $5, or the onsite registration fee of $10, 2 to 4-year-olds can run one lap, 5 to 6-year-olds can run two laps, and 7 to 9-year olds can run three laps.

Pre-register by May 6 at www.eventbrite.com, or from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on race day.

The event will also feature free health screenings at a Health and Benefits Fair from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the track.

The 5K Run/Walk is a fundraiser for the college’s recreation and kinesiology departments, employee wellness committee and the American Cancer Society. The planning, organization and implementation of the race is a collaboration of the college’s kinesiology, recreation, and nutrition departments, with assistance from the Cuesta College Employee Wellness Committee. For more information, call Jani Johnson at (805) 546-3100, ext 2715.
