Cuesta Grade highway resurfacing project continues 

– A project to resurface U.S. Highway 101 in both directions from Reservoir Canyon Road to the summit of the Cuesta Grade will continue this week with road work will taking place during the daytime and overnight hours.

Motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions of US Highway 101 Sunday night through Friday morning from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Road work will also occur during commute hours with two lanes open to traffic in both directions at all times.101

Motorists will also encounter daytime lane closures northbound from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and southbound from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no road work Fridays from 6 a.m. until Sundays at 8 p.m.

The contractor for this $3.1 million project is Telfer Highway Technologies of McClellan, Calif. This project is expected to be completed this month.

In addition, a project to preserve the surface of U.S. Highway 101 from north of San Luis Bay Drive to north of Reservoir Canyon Road began on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m.

Motorists will encounter overnight lane closures due to this project in both directions of US Highway 101 Sunday night through Thursday morning from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.

One lane will remain open to traffic in both directions at all times. Motorists will also encounter intermittent overnight ramp closures within the project area. This project will apply a bonded wearing course on the highway, a preventative surface treatment to prolong the life of the highway.

The contractor for this $4.5 million project is also Telfer Highway Technologies. This project is expected to be completed in Jan. 2016, weather permitting.

Another project to re-pave U.S. Highway 101 in both directions from Avila Beach to the southern end of San Luis Obispo will be completed this month.

These highway improvement projects on the US Highway 101 corridor through San Luis Obispo County have resulted in the resurfacing of 14 miles of US Highway 101 from Avila Beach to the summit of the Cuesta Grade.
