Cuesta students make ‘How to Survive a Cougar Encounter’ video

– A video recently created by Cuesta College’s student run newspaper The Cuestonian is gaining the attention of thousands of viewers. “How to Survive a Cougar Encounter,” shot on the San Luis Obispo campus, informs students what to do if they see a mountain lion. The video, which currently has close to 3,000 views on the paper’s Facebook page, was produced after recent mountain lion sightings were reported on campus.

“Although informative, the video delivers its message in a light-hearted, retro, comedic manner that stars the Cuesta College mascot, which happens to be a mountain lion named Cougie,” said The Cuestonian Faculty Advisor Dawn Hobbs.

Pasadena-based KPCC (89.3 FM), one of the largest National Public Radio (NPR) affiliates in the country, will air an interview with The Cuestonian’s editor-in-chief, Branden Hopper, on Friday, Aug. 28.
