Morro Bay native Jody Mulgrew fronted the old-time/americana band called The Johnny Starlings, and now leads a group called the Skeleton Crew. Based in Nashville, Mare (pronounced Mary) is a frequent visitor to the Central Coast along with her Martin acoustic guitar and piano-playing husband Nomad. The New York Times wrote of the duo: “Lovely vocals and even lovelier songs. Mare Wakefield and Nomad are a little bit old country, a lot contemporary folk a la Dar Williams or Patty Griffin.”

Mare and Nomad were chosen this year as finalists at Kerrville’s NewFolk Songwriting Competition in Texas and as Emerging Artists at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in N.Y.
