Deputy sheriff’s association makes local donations

Donation-to-Food-Bank Donation-of-toysThe San Luis Obispo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association announced two donations it made recently to help local non-profits. The association made a $2,000 donation to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County and $4,000 worth of toys to the Children’s Resource Network of the Central Coast.

The mission of the Food Bank Coalition is to ensure that every person in the county has adequate access to nutritious food. They distribute more than 400,000 pounds of food every year. For every dollar that’s donated, the Food Bank can turn that into $10 worth of food. So the association’s donation will actually be providing $20,000 worth of food. Sheriff Ian Parkinson and members of the Deputy Sheriff’s Association presented the check to Wendy Lewis, the chief operations officer of the food bank.

The Children’s Resource Network of the Central Coast will hand out the donated toys to kids who otherwise wouldn’t receive a present this holiday season. For the past five years, The Children’s Resource Network has provided free clothing, school supplies, and resources to children and teens in need. Undersheriff Tim Olivas and members of the association presented the toys to Children’s Resource Network Chief Executive Officer Lisa Ray.

Earlier this month the association donated $1,000 for Veterans Express. This volunteer organization provides transportation for local Veterans to VA hospitals and clinics in San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and even Los Angeles.
