Draft of Integrated Regional Water Management Plan available

-Special from the Soaring Eagle Press-

The Public Draft of the San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Plan was released recently.

According to the press release, “the IRWM program seeks to create a framework among SLO County stakeholders for sustainable water resource management. The program is used to inventory and facilitate regional plans, programs, and projects that promote and practice integrated regional water management strategies to ensure sustainable water uses, reliable water supplies, better water quality, environmental stewardship, and watershed awareness in accordance with State guidelines.”

It went on to say that the Regional Water Management Group (RWMG) of the SLO County IRWM Program intends to adopt the final IRWM Plan at a public meeting in August 2014. The RWMG Lead Agency, the San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District – the Board of Supervisors – will also consider adoption in August 2014. Notices will be sent out closer to those dates. Interested parties are encouraged to review the plan, attend public workshops, and submit comments.

Please note that there is only one public workshop scheduled for each sub-region in which the public will be able to ask questions and provide comments.

The meeting for the North County Sub-Region will be held on Thursday, June 19 from 9 to 11 am in the Templeton Community Center (Women’s Civic Club at 601 S. Main).

Public comments may also be submitted via email or hard copy to Carolyn Berg, IRWM Program Manager at cberg@co.slo.ca.us or SLO County Public Works Department, Attention Carolyn Berg, County Government Center, Room 206, San Luis Obispo, CA 93408.
