Echo receives grant from community foundation
–El Camino Homeless Organization has received a $8,500 grant from The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County. This grant will be used for fund development creating a plan to build a solid base to support ECHO’s mission in the community and for strong future capacity. ECHO was chosen to receive this grant and is among 24 recipients, whose grants total $193,635.
This year’s grant making program is made possible through the support of the foundation’s community endowment and many donor funds held at the foundation. In 16 years, the CFSLOCO has given out more than $26 million in grants to assist nonprofit agencies.
ECHO is a transitional homeless shelter established in 2001. Today, ECHO has 50 beds and four family rooms. The shelter often has as many as six families including 12 to 18 children at a time. Case managers work with clients to find employment, needed services, and permanent housing. ECHO is the only overnight shelter in north county helping a growing population of homeless families and individuals.
