Estuary program to host informational discussion Aug. 29
Estuary update will discuss health of the bay, watershed, and eelgrass beds
– This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Morro Bay Community Center Multi-Purpose Room, the Morro Bay National Estuary Program invites the community to come learn about the health of the Morro Bay estuary and watershed. Monitoring Program Manager Ann Kitajima will discuss water quality and bacteria in the bay and watershed. Restoration Projects Manager Jen Nix will discuss the health of eelgrass in the bay, as well as past and future replanting efforts.
The event is free to the public. People who have participated in past eelgrass planting efforts are especially encouraged to come and learn about the current state of the eelgrass in the bay, as well as the next steps to help it rebound.
The Morro Bay National Estuary Program is a non-regulatory, non-profit organization that brings together citizens, local governments, non-profits, government agencies, and landowners with the goal to help protect and restore the Morro Bay estuary. This year, the Estuary Program celebrates its 20th anniversary.
