Update: Firefighters find 75-year-old man’s body in burned home

Update posted Aug. 26, 3:30 p.m.

– On Tuesday evening, the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services responded to an call made in the 3200 block of Pine Street. Emergency services arrived within five minutes after dispatch to the single family residence, and upon making entry, found there had been an unreported fire within the interior of the structure that was still smoldering, and found a lone male patient deceased inside the residence.

The call was made by the victim’s ex-wife, who stopped by the residence for a visit, according to Battalion Chief Keith Aggson.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental in nature. Material first ignited appears to be the seat area of a recliner. The ignition source appears to be smoking material, according to emergency services.

The deceased fire victim was the 75-year-old, sole occupant of the residence, whose name is not available. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday. The cause of death is still to be determined by Sheriff Coroner.
