First major wildfire of the season ignites near Shandon 

Shedd fire contained at 150 acres Shedd fire 2

–A brush fire that ignited Tuesday afternoon near Shandon grew to the first major local wildfire of the season, burning 150 acres before being contained by Cal Fire crews, according to reports. The fire, which is being called the Shedd Fire, was burning in grass between Highway 41 and Wood Canyon Road.

Reports say two fires were burning approximately two miles apart along Highway 41 East between Shandon and Shedd Canyon Road. The other fire reportedly started as a 10′ by 10′ spot fire and has been put out.

Three bulldozers, two firefighter crews, seven engines, four air tankers and one helicopter were sent to fight the Shedd Fire. One inmate firefighter reportedly experienced difficulty breathing and was taken to the hospital.

No structures were damaged in the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
