– Georgia Brown Elementary School Principal Ellalina Emrich Keller announced Wednesday that she has accepted a new job as a camp director in Cambria, and will be stepping down as principal. Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Chief Human Resources Officer Ruben Canales will be stepping in as the interim principal effective next week.

On Wednesday, Emrich Keller sent out the following letter announcing her intent:

“To my beloved Georgia Brown families, I am writing to share some difficult news with you. Recently, I was offered the position of Director of Camp KEEP, Kern County School District’s Environmental Education Camp in Cambria, and I have accepted it. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in my life, as you all know how much I believe in and love our dual immersion community. In the end, this decision, though excruciatingly difficult, affords me the opportunity to grow professionally in a new area and most importantly allows me to have time with my daughter.

“I have spent nearly 17 extraordinary years working for Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, with the past five and a half years at Georgia Brown Dual Immersion Magnet Elementary School. It has been such an honor to get to know you and your children, and to have partnered in their dual immersion education. I cherish all of the memories I hold of our experiences together watching your children grow into fine young adults. This community is so unique and special, it is hard to say goodbye. It helps to know I will still have many moments to share with you as a parent while my daughter finishes her education at Georgia Brown and our children grow together in Paso Robles. I look forward to the many wonderful opportunities which lie ahead for our children in this great school district.

“The PRJUSD School Board, our Superintendent Chris Williams, and our District Director of Elementary Education Carol Kenyon, will be working with the staff and the community to ensure a smooth transition and to find a new principal to lead Georgia Brown. I am very confident that with this wonderful and supportive team we will soon have an amazing new addition to our campus. As we transition, Dr. Ruben Canales will serve as the interim principal beginning next week.

“Being one of the main partners in your child’s education has been a job that I never took for granted and I loved every moment of it. Now I will look forward to seeing you at all of our amazing Georgia Brown events throughout the school year, at PRJUSD and community sporting events, and at our tasty local restaurants. Please know how fortunate I truly feel to have been a part of this amazing dual immersion experience that we are all so fortunate to have our children receive in the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District.

“Please accept my sincere appreciation and gratitude for all the support and grace you have provided me during our journey together. I look forward to sharing many more memories as a parent with you at Georgia Brown Elementary School.”
