Girls and Boys, Shadowlands share Valentine’s Day concert
D’Anbino Cellars hosts Songwriters At Play Showcase on Feb. 14
The Songwriters At Play Valentine’s Day concert at D’Anbino in Paso Robles on Friday, Feb. 14 will showcase the music of three couples – duo Girls and Boys, and Shadowlands, a new collaboration of husband-wife teams Bob and Wendy Liepman with Mark Davis and Karoline Hausted.
Girls and Boys
After meeting at a Sonoma County open mic in 2008, Josh Barrett and Brianna Lee knew immediately that they wanted to write music together. A bassist and composer, Josh was struck by Brianna’s vocal and songwriting talent; freshly returned from Nashville, where she’d recorded with producer and songwriter Phil Madeira (Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello). Brianna was ready to take her songwriting to the next level. She found the perfect foil in Josh, who’d amassed years of musical experience. Girls and Boys released their first album in 2011, played all over the Bay Area and hit the Central Coast last year. They now get steady airplay on The Krush 92.5, and four of their songs will be in an upcoming film starring Elliott Gould. For more information, visit www.girlsandboysmusic.com.
Shadowlands
Shadowlands is a newly-formed band that has an ethereal folk pop sound, combining the voices and instruments of four experienced songwriters. With musical roots in San Luis Obispo, Southern California and Denmark, Shadowlands is an expression of the universal language of music, the love of good songwriting and tasteful arrangements. Karoline Hausted’s distinctive piano and voice, Mark Davis’ solid guitar and vocals combine with Bob and Wendy Liepman’s vocals, guitar, cello and mandocello. The collaboration has resulted in new songs penned by Mark, Karoline and Wendy with names like “Witness Me”, “Shadowlands” and “Sunlight Support.” Accolades as separate artists include SLO New Times music awards, Album of the Decade and nomination for a Danish Grammy.
Songwriters At Play concerts are held monthly on second Fridays at D’Anbino Cellars, 710 Pine St., Paso Robles. Reservations are accepted at (805) 227-6800 ext. 700. Tickets are $10. Show begins at 7 p.m.
