Glenn Burdette celebrates 50 years in business
Local certified public accounting firm Glenn Burdette is marking 50 years in business in 2015. Since the company first opened its doors in 1965, Glenn Burdette has expanded to employ more than 60 people in San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria and Paso Robles.
The CPA firm was founded by Fred Glenn on March 15, 1965, in a small office on Marsh Street in San Luis Obispo. Over the next decade, Stephen Burdette, David Phillips, and David Bryson joined the firm and the name was changed to Glenn, Burdette, Phillips & Bryson. Phillips, the company’s longest term employee, is still with Glenn Burdette today.
In 1985, the company moved its headquarters to 1150 Palm Street, where it still stands. The firm opened a second office in Paso Robles in 1998, followed by a third office in Santa Maria in 2004. The name of the company was streamlined to Glenn Burdette in 2011 to position the brand for the future.
“We are always looking to the future, both for our company and for our clients,” said Dan O’Hare, president and managing director. “This anniversary is a huge accomplishment and a testament to the way we do business.”
Glenn Burdette is the first CPA firm in California to form an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), where employees directly benefit from company success. The pioneering move warranted a front cover and special coverage in a leading trade magazine in 2002. Principals say the business model drives innovation and teamwork at the firm, and is an attractive benefit for recruits.
“Instead of a one-time anniversary party, we’re working on some really cool ideas that people will get a kick out of come tax season, and we’ll also be launching a campaign that will directly benefit local students who want to pursue accounting,” said O’Hare. “We’re thankful to the community for supporting Glenn Burdette for the last 50 years. We want the community to celebrate this success with us.”
Glenn Burdette is a certified public accounting firm with offices in Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles. The firm employs 34 certified professionals and 61 total employees. As members of the American Institute of CPAs, Glenn Burdette undergoes a formal examination process, or peer review, to ensure quality and compliance. The firm has passed every peer review since its formation in 1965.
