Update: Highway 1 closed due to rock slides

–Highway 1 south of Big Sur from Lucia to Ragged Pt was closed overnight at 430 p.m. due to slides from heavy rain & wind. Crews began to asses the damage at dawn today. The road remains closed from Ragged Point to 4.4 miles south of Big Sur in Monterey County, according to Cal Trans. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

–Highway 1 was closed overnight from Ragged Pt to Coast Gallery south of Big Sur due to rock slides. Crews began inspection and clean up at daybreak Wednesday.

Caltrans confirmed that the section of road is still closed. The section runs from Ragged Point to Fuller’s Beach near Grimes Point. There were three rockslides in the segment of road, according to Caltrans.

No word yet as to when the road will be re-opened. Updates will be posted as received.
