Update: Highway 41 officially re-opened

highway 46 road closureUpdate posted Feb. 15

— Highway 41 between Morro Bay and Atascadero is now officially reopened, according to Caltrans. The road had been closed since early January after heavy rain caused a series of rockslides.

While it has reopened, Caltrans warns motorists to expect one-way reversing traffic delays Monday through Friday for the next two weeks from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as additional work is completed. A series of rockslides caused the closure due to heavy rain. As of last Thursday, crews removed 21,000 cubic yards of dirt and rock, enough to fill more than six Olympic-sized swimming pools. After removing the dangerous debris, crews got to work installing netting on the hillside to prevent more slides.
