Expect 15-minute delays during traffic switch on Highway 46 East at new Whitley Gardens Bridges

Motorists traveling on Highway 46 East will encounter full temporary highway closures and one-way reversing traffic control as part of a traffic switch to temporarily re-route traffic onto the north Whitely Gardens Bridge, Caltrans announced recently.

These closures and traffic control will begin Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and continue during the overnight hours until Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 a.m. from one-half mile east of Almond/River Grove Drive to one-half mile west of Geneseo Road. Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 15 minutes.

Electronic message boards and detour signs will be posted to assist residents and motorists traveling through this area.

This $47 million project to widen Highway 46 is expected to be completed in the fall of 2014. The $38 million widening of Highway 46 from Almond Drive to McMillan Canyon Road is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
