Highway 46 resurfacing project now underway

Motorists will encounter a lane closure in the westbound directioncaltrans-1

– The final paving of Hwy. 46 East from Almond Drive to McMillan Canyon Road is now underway with roadwork taking place Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Motorists will encounter a lane closure in the westbound direction with one lane open at all times. Delays are expected to be minimal during this resurfacing project, according to Cal Trans.

This project widened Hwy. 46 East from a two-lane divided highway to a four lane expressway with two lanes in each direction. The contractor for this $38 million project is Papich Construction of Pismo Beach. This project is expected to be completed in mid-August.

The widening of Hwy. 46 East from Geneseo Road to east of Almond Drive was completed in the fall of 2014. The first phase of widening Hwy. 46 East from Airport Road to Geneseo Road was completed in 2010. The widening of Hwy. 46 East from McMillan Canyon Road to West of Lucy Brown Road began in the spring of 2016.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
