Hospital hosts postpartum depression support group

Twin Cities HospitalTwin Cities Community Hospital is starting a Postpartum Depression Support Group for new mothers who are overwhelmed, feel depressed, or are having difficulty adjusting to motherhood.

This free, ongoing group session focuses on teaching positive coping skills and providing support and education. Risk factors and symptoms of postpartum depression are discussed, as well as strategies for managing the new challenges of motherhood. The support group is facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and meets the third Wednesday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Founders’ Pavilion located at 1100 Las Tablas Road, Templeton, CA 93465. Mothers, babies and support persons are all welcome to attend.

“We have identified the community’s need for proper instruction and assistance with certain delicate aspects of motherhood from post-partum support to breastfeeding, all of which can sometimes be distressing and emotionally challenging for new mothers,” says Shareen Taylor, director of perinatal services at Twin Cities Community Hospital.

Twin Cities specializes in Maternity Care and offers daily tours, one-on-one outpatient lactation consultation services with certified lactation consultants and a variety of open forum classes including Prepared Childbirth classes (every Wednesday from 6:30-9pm), Newborn and Parents Support Group/NAPS (every Monday from 9:30-10:30am), Infant Care classes (3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30pm), Breastfeeding Basics classes (2nd Thursday of every month at 6:30pm), Car Seat Classes (as scheduled) and Solid Foods Introduction and Beyond classes (as scheduled).
