Investigators looking for person responsible for Cuesta Fire

suspects wanted for starting cuesta fire

– Fire investigators would like the public’s help in identifying the vehicle responsible for starting the Cuesta Fire.

The Cuesta Fire was reported on Aug. 16, 2015 at approximately 6:12 p.m. Investigators believe a northbound vehicle traveling uphill over the Cuesta Grade was experiencing some type of mechanical issue that ignited dry vegetation adjacent to the road.

The same vehicle may also be responsible for a fire on an uphill section of Highway 101, the Nojoqui Grade, in Santa Barbara County and on an uphill section of Highway 41 in northern San Luis Obispo County.

Anyone who saw a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 101, on the Cuesta Grade, with an obvious mechanical issue, dragging a chain, or that you believe may be involved in the ignition of the fire between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 16, 2015, is asked to contact investigators.

The Cal Fire Arson Hotline is 1-800-468-4408. Information can remain anonymous.
