J. Lohr hires Rhonda Motil as senior marketing director

Rhonda Motil, J. Lohr Vineyards & WinesCentral Coast winegrower and producer J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines announces the appointment of wine industry veteran Rhonda Motil to the position of senior marketing director. Motil joins J. Lohr after ten years as the executive director of the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association (MCVGA), where she managed all aspects of business operations and increased membership programs by over 85%. In her new role at J. Lohr, Motil will work with a core marketing team, which includes VP Marketing Cynthia Lohr in the development and oversight of J. Lohr’s marketing, sponsorship and education programs. She will also support J. Lohr principals in the areas of industry relations and regional advocacy.

Prior to her tenure at the MCVGA, Motil spent nearly a decade in the tech industry with a specialization in marketing. She was the market analysis and product marketing manager for Sterling Commerce, vice president, product marketing for Advanced Data Exchange and vice president, corporate marketing for iPIN, where she managed product and marketing launch activities in the U.S., France, England and Hong Kong.

In 2002, Motil became executive director for the MCVGA, as well as its sister organization, the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Foundation. In this role, she created and implemented annual business and operational plans, managed regional branding efforts, hosted national media and trade tours, and acted as an advocate and spokesperson for the Monterey grape industry, which comprises over 42,000 acres and 200 vineyards.

“Rhonda’s leadership at the MCVGA helped transform the region to world-class stature,” says Cynthia Lohr. “Those of us with vineyard holdings in Monterey County know the impact she has had on branding the region and its unique winegrowing attributes, so that trade and consumers can better appreciate the wines from Monterey County. Rhonda also understands that J. Lohr is committed to advancing research and best practices in our industry, as well as advocating for our chosen winegrowing regions, most notably, Paso Robles and Monterey County.  All of this makes Rhonda an ideal fit for our mission, and we are thrilled to have her join the J. Lohr team.”

Motil, who has a masters of business administration from the University of Dayton, has served on numerous boards and advisory committees, including the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Women’s Education Leadership Initiative and the Monterey County Economic Business Development Committee. She has also been the Monterey County representative for both the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers. In addition to her role at J. Lohr, Motil will continue to serve on the technical review committee for the California Department of Food & Agriculture, and the advisory board for the California State University Monterey Bay Hospitality Program.
