January Templeton Blood Drive a resounding success

Fifty-one donors gave blood at the first Templeton Blood Drive of the year hosted by the Templeton Fire Department on Wednesday, January 23rd.

In anticipation of a good turn-out, United Blood Services brought two buses in order to serve as many donors as possible during the 5-hour Blood Drive. They were not disappointed. “We’d like to extend our thanks to the community of Templeton,” said Mona Kleman of United Blood Services. “The response was amazing and commendable for a community of your size.”

According to Kleman, turnout records for Templeton indicate an average of 20 donors per drive in 2004, growing to average of between 50 and 60 per drive today, with an all- time record of 74 donors.

But more blood is needed. “Nation-wide we have a serious need for all blood types due to the cold and flu epidemic,” said Kleman.

During the month of February, there are two more opportunities in the North County to give blood.

February 9th / Walmart in Paso Robles / 12 to 4 pm

February 18th / Bloom & Grow in Atascadero / 12 to 5 pm

The next Blood Drive at the Templeton Fire Station is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th from 2 to 7 pm.
