Highway 101 accident

Two drivers taken to Sierra Vista Hospital

On Friday at about 9:26 a.m. a major injury traffic collision occurred on Highway 101 southbound at Wellsona Road, north of Paso Robles. The collision occurred when the driver of a white 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling northbound on US-1 01 attempted to make the left turn onto Wellsona Road, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol

The vehicle traveled across the southbound traffic lanes, directly into the path of a southbound green 1998 Jeep Cherokee, the report says. The front of the green Jeep struck the right side of the white Jeep. The driver of the white Jeep, John Manuel Carreras, 61, of San Miguel, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The driver of the green Jeep, James Patrick King, 52, of San Miguel, sustained major injuries and was also transported to Sierra Vista Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation. Drug and alcohol use is not suspected of being a contributing factor at this time.
