Kindergarten registration packets available Feb. 17

Starting Tuesday, February 17, 2015, parents will be able to receive registration packages for incoming kindergarten students in Paso Robles Public Schools. Parents may pick up registration packages during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the district office, or at any district elementary school.

Public SchoolsRegistration for kindergarten students will begin on March 2 for Georgia Brown and Bauer-Speck elementary schools, and March 9 for Pat Butler, Kermit King, Virginia Peterson, and Pifer Elementary schools.

When registering a child, parents must bring proof of child’s age and legal name, such as county birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or passport. Written evidence of immunizations is required as well as parent identification and a utility bill (preferably electric) to verify family addresses,

To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2015. However, there is a “Transitional Kindergarten” program for children whose 5th birthday falls on or between September 2, and December 2, 2015. This is an opportunity to spend a year getting ready for full-day kindergarten.

Additionally, starting this year, children whose 5th birthday falls on or between December 3, 2015, and March 1, 2016 may apply for early enrollment into the transitional kindergarten program, allowing them to begin attending at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.

Paso Robles Public Schools will offer half-day Transitional Kindergarten classes at Georgia Brown (a dual language school), Winifred Pifer, Pat Butler, and if enrollment numbers permit, at Bauer-Speck Elementary schools. Paso Schools will also be expanding the successful full-day kindergarten program to all elementary schools this year. Full day kindergarten operates on the same daily schedule as 1st – 5th grades.

Georgia Brown Elementary will continue to offer a dual-language, Spanish and English, immersion program to students enrolled in that school. Bauer Speck Elementary will continue to offer a Visual and Performing Arts Program to students enrolled in that school.

Each elementary school will hold an informational parent meeting. If there are any questions regarding kindergarten registration, parents should call Paso Robles Public Schools District Office at (805) 769-1000.
